Position Overview: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology Technologist assists in all Cardiac Cath lab procedures and provides for the comfort and well-being of the patient. The Technologist works under the general supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Team Leader and the physicians (cardiologist, surgeon, radiologist, or pulmonologist) for professional or technical matters. He/She prepares and operates fluoro/recording equipment to produce specialized fluoro studies of the coronary and peripheral vascular systems for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.
The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology Technologist ensures accuracy and realizes errors in asepsis procedures could result in injury to the patient; and, improper calibrations or faulty maintenance and operation of equipment could result in a life threatening situation.

Education- RTs — Must be a graduate from an accredited, state approved, School of Radiologic Technology.
- RCIS — Must be credentialed by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- RTs — Must be currently licensed as Radiologic Technologist by ARRT. Must maintain a minimum of 24 Continuing Education credits in each two (2) year period as required by ARRT in Radiology. Special Procedures Registry preferred.
- RTs — Must be licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
- RCIS — Must be credentialed by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Must complete ACLS certification within six (6) months of start date; must maintain current ACLS certification.
- A minimum of six (6) months’ experience in Special Procedures and Cardiac Cath required.

Physical DemandsWork is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office and facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Exertion includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects and patients. Safe lifting practice is required, and assistance should be requested when needed. The employee is exposed to ionized radiation and must wear lead protective gear as required.
Ability to stand for extended periods in lead aprons and work in low lighting with equipment noise is necessary. Schedules may change due to hospital needs.
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties for assessment and decision making. Strong communication skills (oral and written). Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and maintain collaborative relationships. Demonstrates clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities in patient care and technical issues across ages.
Special DemandsMust possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficient computer and software skills (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word). Ability to help ensure accreditation standards are met. Travel within the SRHS service area with own transportation; valid driver license required. May require out-of-state travel for education. Must participate in an on-call rotation, including weekends; must report to the unit in need of service.
