The Women’s and Children’s Quality Navigator/Educator works collaboratively to coordinate the care for patients, adults, and newborns seen within the Maternal/Child department. The role enhances the performance and professional development of healthcare providers and their continuing competencies. The Educator develops and coordinates educational programs and materials specific for nursing and patient care service areas, communicates routinely with Singing River Health System departments to conduct follow‑up screening, and ensures hearing screens and follow‑up labs are completed.
The Navigator collects, analyzes, and prioritizes comprehensive patient health data pertinent to the patient’s health and/or condition in conjunction with state and federally mandated programs such as AIM, MOMS, and Baby Friendly. The Educator analyzes assessment data to determine diagnoses and/or issues, includes patient, family, and other healthcare providers in the process, drives the plan of care, and facilitates the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas.
The Navigator participates in orientation, training, ongoing staff development, and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. They serve as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information, keeping abreast of current research in nursing practice and care delivery, and facilitate the implementation of Evidence‑Based Practice initiatives. Working hours and availability adjust as needed (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet staff educational needs.
The role performs utilizing the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, Accreditation Agency Standards, National Evidence Based Standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and the SRHS Department of Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.

EducationGraduate from NLN School of Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
LicenseCurrently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.
CertificationsRequired to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Must complete and maintain NRP certification by the end of position orientation (90 days).
Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de‑escalation training.
Five (5) years’ clinical nursing experience appropriate for area of specialty required. Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred. Experience in maternal/child patient navigation preferred.

Physical DemandsWork is moderately active: involve sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move within the facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including human bodies. Subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry infectious disease. Perform repetitive motions: substantial movements of wrists, hands, and fingers while using standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard.
Perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction, making fine discriminations in sound. Maintain visual acuity and ability to adjust focus, e.g., shift gaze from a computer monitor to closer printed material. Be active for extended periods without undue fatigue. Accept schedules assigned with possible changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.
Demonstrate keen mental faculties and decision‑making abilities. Superior communication, speaking, and enunciation skills to convey information in person and by phone. Strong written and verbal communication. Emotional stability to handle high stress. Work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and ability to multitask in complex situations. Maintain collaborative relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special DemandsSuperior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficient computer knowledge, keyboard proficiency, use of phone, fax, MS Outlook, and Word. Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages. Travel throughout the SRHS service area using personal transportation may be required.
