Overview
The role involves operating and programming CNC machines, interpreting blueprints and specifications, monitoring and optimizing machining processes, and maintaining equipment. The position requires coordination with night shift team leads and collaboration with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel.
Responsibilities- Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machines and other specialized machine tools.
- Write, enter, and verify CNC machine commands to achieve desired outcomes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Monitor machining processes, adjusting feed and speed to optimize performance.
- Load and unload raw materials and castings into CNC machinery.
- Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
- Conduct quality checks using gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve machine malfunctions, reporting issues to the Machine Shop Manager.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting equipment.
- Ensure all machines operate efficiently by conducting regular inspections.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on CNC machine operations and best practices.
- Lead night shift meetings to ensure effective communication and task execution.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for night shift employees when the Machine Shop Manager is unavailable.
- Communicate key updates and concerns to the Machine Shop Manager.
- Collaborate with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
- Assist with shipping and receiving tasks during the night shift.
- Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products using metalworking machinery.
- Recommend modifications to improve efficiency and adaptability in setup and production.
- Perform ancillary duties as required.
- High school diploma preferred; technical school coursework is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience in a CNC Operator/Programmer role.
- Strong CNC programming skills and ability to write machine commands.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical documents.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
