The SBM Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager is a key leader at our Pasadena production facility and vital to creating a safe and compliant workplace for our team members. We are seeking an individual passionate about creating environments where employees are safe and productive, who has been successful developing, implementing and improving company programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Our HSE Manager will be a collaborative team member who works with the greater team to implement and enforce policies and procedures that promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Development and execution of short‑ and long‑term HSE objectives.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on new or improved systems, processes, and procedures for environmental and safety control and regulatory compliance.
  • Direct all HSE activities, including planning, implementing, and managing technical performance to ensure quality and financial objectives are attained.
  • Manage HSE projects, including project design and schedule to meet objectives.
  • Implement strategies to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.
  • Maintain safety equipment inventory, perform safety inspections, and monitor hazardous waste removal vendors; conduct training in emergency response and hazardous material handling.
  • Manage the site disposal and waste program—hazardous, non‑hazardous, drum and totes.
  • Use data and KPIs to drive HSE performance.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors for HSE services.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations and complete all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA).
  • Ensure and maintain all necessary permits for environmental and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses and develop corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on HSE topics for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience in safety and environmental compliance or related field in a plant setting.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal HSE regulations.
  • Experience developing and delivering training materials.
  • 3+ years of direct team leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Chemical formulation experience preferred.

  • Highly motivated, energetic, and creative.
  • Broad knowledge of the methods and practices for conducting accident and workplace safety audits and investigations.
  • Extensive technical understanding of environmental health and safety principles, concepts, theories, regulations, and practices.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Knowledge of practices and methods for developing and administering a comprehensive HSE program, including designing employee HSE training programs.
  • Ability to work independently to manage multiple projects and initiatives to meet established timelines.
  • Self‑starter, highly motivated to identify problems and take initiative to make corrective actions.
