Summary
Gallant is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to lead the preparation and submission of competitive bids for complex heavy industrial projects. This position requires a hands‑on professional who is actively involved throughout the full estimating lifecycle—from participating in pre‑bid site walks and conducting detailed quantity take‑offs, to coordinating subcontractor and vendor input, and assembling comprehensive bid packages for executive review.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge across multiple disciplines, including industrial piping, mechanical systems, civil infrastructure, and structural steel, and demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying risks, clarifying scope, and ensuring bid accuracy. This role plays a critical part in securing new work and supporting Gallant’s continued growth and reputation for excellence in the industrial construction sector.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lead the full‑cycle estimating process for industrial construction projects, including mechanical, piping, structural steel, concrete, and civil scopes.
- Participate in and conduct pre‑bid site walks to assess conditions, identify potential risks, and gather critical field data.
- Review project plans, specifications, and addenda to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity take‑offs, labor and material pricing, and develop complete, accurate cost estimates for self‑perform and subcontracted work.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring coverage, compliance, and alignment with project scope.
- Prepare and assemble complete bid packages, including scope sheets, clarifications, and exclusions, for internal review and submission.
- Coordinate and lead internal estimate review meetings to present bid strategies, assumptions, and final pricing recommendations.
- Identify and communicate value engineering opportunities, constructability concerns, and schedule impacts.
- Support post‑bid activities, including subcontractor buyouts, scope alignment, and budget development.
- Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing databases to support future bids and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and internal project teams.
- Assist in the development and mentoring of junior estimating staff, providing technical guidance and review as needed.
- Comply with pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Provide valid documentation for the I-9 immigration document.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Report to work at the designated start time.
- Be willing and able to travel to work sites, which may be in different locations around the division on occasion.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record that meets company standards.
- Deep understanding of industrial construction disciplines, including mechanical/process piping, structural steel, concrete, civil sitework, and material handling systems.
- Read and understand complex drawings and blueprints and other construction specifications.
- Proficient in layout, form work and setting bolts; concrete placing and finishing.
- Experience with construction technology, building design, architecture, and surveying.
- Work well with a wide range of people, resolve problems quickly, and share information and experience with staff.
- Problem‑solving skills and critical thinking are required.
- Must be detail oriented and goal driven.
- Minimum of 7 years of heavy industrial estimating experience working directly for a general or specialty contractor, with a primary focus on preparing hard bids (not ROM or consultant‑level budgets).
