Overview

As Director of the Turf & Ornamental (T&O) Division, this role oversees all sales activity within the division, collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop and implement programs that drive growth across the turf management, lawn care, golf, greenhouse, and nursery segments. The Director will work directly with key customers, distributors, and channel partners to maximize profitability while leading the division’s sales team to exceed targets.

An excellent T&O Director is a strategic, influential leader—capable of motivating a high‑performing sales organization, navigating the dynamics of the turf and ornamental market, and supporting product innovation that aligns with customer needs.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

General

  • Create, implement, and execute the business plan for the Turf & Ornamental Division.
  • Develop strategic pricing structures and margin mapping for distribution and end‑use customer segments.
  • Manage divisional budgets, expenses, forecasting, and financial reporting to ensure resources are allocated effectively and profitability goals are achieved.
  • Review and analyze sales trends, market data, and competitive activity to identify opportunities for growth and new customer acquisition.
  • Collaborate with Sales & Marketing leadership on promotional programs, campaigns, digital strategies, and new product introductions.
  • Coordinate profit and margin optimization for each SKU to achieve/exceed annual workplan projections.
  • Partner with Marketing on tradeshow planning, product launches, field days, and key industry events.
  • Align with Customer Service and Operations to ensure smooth order fulfillment, forecasting, and customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with Executive Leadership to refine sales territories, annual targets, incentive plans, and long‑term growth strategies.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of turf science trends, competitive offerings, regulatory shifts, and best‑in‑class sales approaches.
  • Support resolution of customer issues by partnering with internal cross‑functional teams.
  • Represent CSI at industry conferences, association meetings, distributor events, and training opportunities.

Leadership & Oversight

  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the division; implement training, tools, and processes to maximize team performance.
  • Lead regular divisional sales meetings to review goals, share market intelligence, and strengthen engagement and culture.
  • Monitor  territory reports including customer interactions, opportunity pipelines, and competitive insights.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the T&O sales team to ensure strong execution, professional growth, and sales excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Experience & Skills
  • BS/BA in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Business, Marketing, or related field (preferred).
  • Ability to travel up to 70%.
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record.
  • Strong understanding of the turf and ornamental market, including LCO, golf, nursery/greenhouse, and landscape distribution channels.
  • Knowledge of sales promotion, agronomic product positioning, and channel marketing techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven negotiation, customer service, and relationship‑building abilities.
  • Strong analytical and math skills for budgeting, profitability analysis, and forecasting.
