• The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a licensed registered nurse with graduate preparation (master’s or doctorate) in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist.
• Provide expert comprehensive nursing care directly to patients and support and develop registered nurses at the point of care.
• Serve as a leader in redesigning systems to improve access, quality, and safety in a cost-effective manner.
• Improve patient care by applying the best evidence and innovations in practice while monitoring patient outcomes for clinical effectiveness.
• Focus on activities in Medical Surgical, Geriatric, Telemetry, Critical Care, and/or Outpatient/Procedural care areas; role may require flexible hours.
• Provide oversight of patient education activities and contribute to departmental policies and procedures in partnership with nursing leadership and interprofessional teams.
• Identify performance and outcomes measures, collect and analyze data, and implement practice changes based on findings.
• Collaborate with Nursing Research on activities related to the adult/geriatric population.

• Education: Graduate from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist program required. Master’s Degree (Doctoral Degree [DNP or PhD] preferred).
• Experience/Training: Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as an RN with adult medical-surgical, telemetry, geriatric and/or critical care patient care experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: Required:
  Current unrestricted RN license (California BRN); BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association; CNS certification issued by California BRN. Preferred:
  Certification in a specialty area.
• Skills: Clinical judgment and ability to direct clinical nursing practice for adult/geriatric patients; capability to implement evidence-based guidelines; provide consultation to nursing staff; facilitation of learning; coordinate educational development and clinical competency; ensure ongoing staff competency; oversee patient education activities; collaborate on development and implementation of department policies & procedures; identify and analyze performance measures and drive improvements.
