The City of Pasadena is currently seeking a proactive, energetic, and dependable Public Works Maintenance Worker III (lead worker) who will provide skilled maintenance work in the Resource Recovery and Recycling division of the Public Works Department. Our dynamic department presents an exciting opportunity for a hard-working, flexible, and forward-thinking professional.
The current vacancy is in our Resource Recovery and Recycling Division (RRR), which handles street sweeping, solid waste management, and bulky item removal throughout the City. This position works the graveyard shift on a 9/80 schedule. 2:00 am to 11:30 am Monday through Thursday and 12:00 am to 8:30 am on the Friday worked. Every other Friday off.
IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate will be an expert in their field with experience in solid waste or street cleaning (street sweeping) with a strong interest in skilled and heavy manual labor and heavy equipment operation. Solid Waste Machinery (Street Sweeper) experience is highly desirable. This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, takes initiative, possesses effective problem-solving skills, maintains safety standards, and has boundless energy as well as a strong work ethic.

- Performs skilled work while engaging in the maintenance via street sweeping of various locations throughout the city.
- Operates heavy equipment frequently (street sweeper).

- Three years of experience in general construction, repair, or laboring work (sewers, drains, street lights, street cleaning, street painting, solid waste, and concrete construction and finishing).
- Three or more years of experience in street cleaning, street sweeping or solid waste/refuse experience.
- One year of experience in a lead worker or supervisory role.
The selection process will consist of any combination of application evaluation, written exam, oral panel interview, department interview and may be required to complete a brief soft-skills assessment during the selection process. VACANCY INFORMATIONThere is currently one vacancy in the Resource Recovery and Recycling Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
Incumbents in this classification may be rotated among the various public works maintenance operations. The work shift may include weekends and holidays on a rotating or permanent basis and night shift when assigned to street cleaning operations.
Must posses or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B California Driver's License within six months of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
Enrollment in approved college-level public works and supervisory courses will be required within six months of appointment and are to be continued until a minimum of nine college units have been completed. (Proof of satisfactory completion of these courses will be required.)
Physical strength and agility to lift up to 60 lbs, bend in all directions, squeeze with arms and hands, pull and lower up to 60 lbs.
