Overview

A highly specialized California litigation firm focused on defense-side matters is seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to support its growing caseload across state and federal courts. The firm represents public safety professionals and other clients in complex, high-stakes litigation and is known for hands-on advocacy, trial readiness, and strategic defense.

This role is ideal for a litigator who wants meaningful responsibility, real courtroom exposure, and the ability to run cases with autonomy. The attorney will work closely with firm leadership while serving as primary counsel on assigned matters.

Litigation Attorney Requirements & Qualifications
  • Active California bar admission in good standing
  • Demonstrated experience as primary or lead counsel on civil litigation matters
  • State and federal court litigation experience (ideally with balanced exposure)
  • Proven trial experience
  • Defense litigation background: public entity, police, civil rights strongly preferred
  • Skilled in legal research, writing, case strategy, and client management
  • Comfortable working with minimal oversight and independently managing a caseload
Litigation Attorney Preferred Background & Skills
  • Defense-side litigation background
  • Experience with public entity defense or civil rights defense
  • Familiarity with Section 1983 matters or public safety-related litigation
  • Experience handling administrative hearings or disciplinary proceedings
  • Practical, hands-on litigation approach with sound judgment under pressure
Litigation Attorney Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Manage state and federal civil litigation matters
  • Serve as primary attorney on assigned cases
  • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions
  • Conduct and defend depositions
  • Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and oral arguments
  • Prepare matters for trial, including strategy and witness preparation
  • Collaborate with firm leadership and support staff to move cases efficiently
  • Maintain compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements
