Summary
The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for maintaining an efficient surgical schedule between patients, physicians, hospitals, and surgical centers. This position receives scheduling requests from physicians and schedules procedures according to established guidelines. The Surgery Scheduler must have excellent organization, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Communication with physicians, staff, and patients is paramount in this position to ensure that scheduling needs are met effectively and efficiently.
WhatYou Will Be Doing
- Perform prior authorization submission and confirmation.
- Confirm coverage eligibility.
- Confirm that the submission of prior authorizations for all required procedures is complete.
- Schedule pre and post operative appointments applicable to the practice.
- Maintain and confirm that surgical scheduling records are current and accurate.
- Coordinate and confirm availability of equipment required for all procedures.
- Confirm block dates are current and release dates are released in a timely manner per company guidelines.
- Assist with scheduling of in-office procedures including, but not limited to diagnostic imaging studies.
- Ensure surgical orders, required clearances, labs, authorizations, history and physicals are sent to the appropriate treating facility and are uploaded to patient’s EMR prior to procedures.
- Confirm pre-op labs and coordinating of procedure/surgical testing are completed.
- Document and confirm surgical clearance and completion of pretesting prior to cases.
- Verify EMR scheduling correspondences between physician, patient, and surgical facility are completed.
- High school diploma or GED certificate required
- 1+ years of experience in surgical scheduling (preferred)
- Prior experience with electronic medical record software (preferred)
- Prior knowledge of medical terminology and coding (preferred)
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred
- Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of HIPAA Compliance rules and regulations
- Ability to maintain strict patient, physician, staff, and corporate confidentiality
