Position: Registered Nurse 12HR, Full Time Nights - Critical Care Unit (7:00 pm - 7:30 am)

Responsibilities

Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family. Supervises the management of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, linking and scheduling patients with required services, monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, care planning and evaluating outcomes. Coordinates patient care across the health care continuum, and assists other team members with meeting individual patient needs.

This position may require flexibility of hours.

Education

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree (BSN) required. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) will be considered if enrolled in a BSN program with degree completion within 2 years of date of hire or date of transfer to an RN position. Diploma or transcripts on highest degree earned required.

Experience/Training

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Minimum 2 years of current experience in a critical care unit, in an acute mixed unit preferred and 3 years' experience preferred. Surgical, Neuro, Cardiac and Trauma nursing experience also strong preferred. Must challenge and successfully pass the Basic Dysrhythmia course curriculum within 21 days of hire. Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems required, EPIC experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Required:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within 30 days of hire/transfer

Skills

SKILLS: Care of the patient receiving Sedation/Analgesia;
Care of the patient with Hemodynamic monitoring and/or support;
Care of the patient with Neurological monitoring;
Care of the patient with Pulmonary monitoring and/or support, including ventilators;
Care of the Trauma patient;
Must be willing and able to work in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment;
Must be willing and able to multi-task effectively to accomplish work assignments.

  • Demonstrates competent knowledge base in pathophysiology of the cardio vascular patient; through appropriate assessment, critical thinking skills, and plan of care, which is measured by addressing: organ perfusion and cardiac output; patient activity; and dysrhythmias.
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge base in the pathophysiology of the neuro patient; through appropriate assessment and critical thinking skills; formulates and implements an ongoing patient specific plan of care, which is measured by addressing adequate cerebral perfusion pressures, patient safety, and appropriate stimulation for the patient.
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge base in the pathophysiology of the respiratory patient; through the appropriate assessment and critical thinking skills; formulates and implements an ongoing patient specific plan of care, which is measured by addressing maintenance of normal or appropriate O2/CO2 levels, ability to intervene in emergent situations, and RSBI assessment for mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge base in the pathophysiology of the metabolic patient; through appropriate assessment and critical thinking skills; monitors and interprets acid-base balance and labs, evaluates nutritional status, and aims for optimal glucose control (80-110).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of unit and hospital core measures to improve patient outcomes; formulates and implements an ongoing patient plan of care, including ventilator bundle, infection prevention standards, hand hygiene, barrier precautions, sepsis bundle, sedation management, pain management, patient-centered care, and involving patients’ loved ones appropriately.
  • Demonstrates technical skills to operate and troubleshoot critical care equipment and diagnostic devices; provides age-appropriate care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in the critical care setting.
  • Ensures environment safety by maintaining hallways clear, doors closed, documentation of temperatures, reporting repairs, and adhering to safety procedures.
