Responsibilities- The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a licensed registered nurse with graduate preparation (master’s or doctorate) in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist.
- The CNS provides leadership and clinical expertise within the NACNS spheres of impact by utilizing advanced level competencies and delivers expert comprehensive nursing care directly to patients.
- Supports and develops registered nurses at the point of care and leads system redesigns to improve access, quality, and safety in a cost-effective manner.
- Implements the best evidence and innovations in practice and monitors patient outcomes for clinical effectiveness.
- The CNS role for Adults has a primary focus on Medical Surgical, Geriatric, Telemetry, Critical Care, and/or Outpatient/Procedural care areas, with flexible hours as needed.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist program required. Master’s Degree (Doctoral Degree [DNP or PhD] preferred).
- Experience/Training: Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a registered nurse with adult medical-surgical, telemetry, geriatric and/or critical care patient care area/population.
- Licenses/Certifications: Required:
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
- Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA)
- Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) issued by California Board of Registered Nursing
- Preferred: Certification in specialty area
- For Adult Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Critical Care and Gerontology:
- Clinical Judgment:
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge base and expertise in assessment and clinical skills; directs clinical nursing practice for adult/geriatric patients; implements evidence-based or best practice guidelines; provides consultation on complex patient issues. - Facilitator of Learning:
Coordinates and assesses educational development and clinical competency of the nursing staff; ensures continued competency through educational programs; oversees comprehensive patient education activities. - Collaboration:
Develops and oversees implementation of departmental policies and procedures with nursing leadership, Medical Directors and interprofessional team stakeholders; assists in identifying performance and outcomes measures by data collection and analysis; partners with Nursing Research on research activities related to the adult/geriatric population.
