Position: 2026 Summer Prog After Camp Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Afternoon Camp Coordinator for a PEF Summer Enrichment Program site serves as an educational leader, responsible for managing policies and procedures to ensure all students are supervised in a nurturing and enriching environment that meets the mission of the PEF Summer Enrichment Program.

This year, the PEF Afternoon Camp will provide an enriching after school care program for K-6 students. The Afternoon Camp Coordinator will work closely and collaboratively with PEF staff members to direct, support, and communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and students. This leadership position requires direct supervision of staff, lesson planning for care activities, communication with parents, intervening with student behavior issues, and reporting pertinent information to PEF's program manager and other assigned staff.

(Additional responsibilities are listed below.)

Our 5-week program runs from June 15 - July 16, 2026, and runs 4 days a week (Monday - Thursday). Successful Site Coordinator candidates need to be available a week before the program for setup and training, and for the entirety of the program.

Please note:

  • Both current PUSD and non-PUSD employees are welcome to apply.
  • Prior employment by PEF does not guarantee a position for the 2026 program.
  • Afternoon Camp Coordinators must be available for the entire summer program, including before, during, and after operational hours as needed.
  • While we try to match candidates to their preferred campus and/or area of interest, we reserve the right to place as needed.
  • Positions are contingent on strength of the candidate, and number of positions available.

Compensation is a flat-fee amount paid one-time approximately 1 week after the conclusion of the program. This position is an exempt, part-time position with PEF and is not eligible for benefits. Employment is contingent upon verification and timely completion (before program starts) of all mandated payroll tax (W-4, DE4) and employment eligibility (I-9) forms, and also a background check.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and support office managers, health clerks, program aides, and volunteers to ensure that a quality program is delivered, and that all staff members are complying with all PEF protocols and procedures, including the use of the Bamboo

    HR time management program.
  • Design a curriculum for groups of 10-15 K-6th grade students, and direct its implementation by supervising the program aides who lead each group. You must have at least 4 program days' worth of detailed curriculum planned in advance, and be able to provide it to the PEF Program Manager upon request.
  • Before the first day of the program, you must provide a simple outline of your entire 5-week curriculum to the PEF Program Manager, which you may revise as needed.
  • Attend virtual or in-person meetings to plan the program with the PEF Program Manager and other staff.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, visitors, and staff. In case of an emergency, the Afternoon Camp Coordinator must be able to lift 70 pounds.
  • Provide one drill at the beginning of the program for emergencies and disaster preparedness.
  • Develop pick-up and morning-to-afternoon transfer procedures for your campus, and notify PEF Program Manager of all plans before the start of the program and also with any changes during the program.
  • Use effective and appropriate communication when addressing students, staff, parents, and others.
  • Make sound judgment calls and use appropriate conflict resolution techniques in difficult situations regarding student behavior, emergency situations, etc.
  • Arrive on campus 30 minutes before the afternoon camp starts each day to ensure the campus is prepared. The Afternoon Camp Coordinator must remain on campus 30 minutes after the afternoon camp has ended and all students have been picked up. The Afternoon Camp Coordinator must communicate with the morning Site Coordinator daily during the program.
  • Afternoon Camp Coordinators, and all staff, should remain on campus for the entire duration of a daily shift, unless an emergency arises, in which case the PEF Program Manager must be contacted.
  • Ensure that meal and/or snack programs provided by PUSD Food Services Program run smoothly.
  • Assist with program set-up preparations the week before the program starts, including meeting with staff and preparing equipment.
  • Ensure volunteers are supported and report any concerns to the PEF Volunteer Manager.
