Position SummaryPatient Care Technician Float Pool Per Diem – LOH. In this role, the technician assists professional nurses in patient care, supports unit operations, and demonstrates NYU Langone Health Core Values in all job activities.
Job Responsibilities- Demonstrate knowledge of NYU Langone Health Core Values and incorporate them into performance of duties.
- Respect patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights.
- Accountability for supplies, equipment, and environmental support.
- Assist in collection of data for the unit Quality and Performance Improvement Program, including patient satisfaction measures.
- Assist the nurse in review and corrective action plans regarding patient/family response and satisfaction.
- Recognize own limitations and request assistance when needed.
- Discuss educational concerns and goals with Nurse Manager or appropriate leadership.
- Seek learning resources for identified learning needs.
- Participate in orientation of other patient care technicians and unit meetings and conferences.
- Complete annual mandatory education requirements for patient care technicians.
- Demonstrate awareness of needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and different cultures.
- Assist in supporting unit activities as requested and assist in emergency situations as directed.
- Utilize specialized skills and safety when carrying out specific patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, finger sticks for glucose, and electrocardiograms.
- Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist in data collection and activities as assigned, maintaining safety and comfort needs of patients and families.
- Verbally and non‑verbally communicate responsiveness and support to patients, families, and other staff.
- Observe general behavior and report to the registered nurse assigned.
- Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or restraints per policy and as directed.
- Provide assistance to patients in activities as applicable.
- Complete delegated responsibilities as directed by the registered nurse.
- Use a clear, caring and respectful communication style with patients, families, nurses, and other members of the health care team.
- Answer patient call lights promptly and effectively; complete patient requests for assistance with personal care and activity, and report requests outside the role to the professional nurse.
- Report all observations concerning patients to the professional nurse responsible for the patient on the shift.
- Provide security of patients’ personal property and handle valuables according to hospital procedure, maintaining cleanliness of the unit as appropriate.
- Give direct assistance to all team members, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, nursing attendants, patient unit clerks, escort, dietary and other health care employees.
- Assist in having patient ready for scheduled appointments including placing the patient on a stretcher or in a wheelchair; run errands to other departments.
- Assist in keeping patient environment, equipment, and care areas clean, safe and orderly.
- Ensure that necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit.
High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience, or CNA graduate with course completion in EKG & Phlebotomy and PCT certification eligible plus at least 6 months hospital experience, or PCT Certification through National Health career Association with at least 6 months hospital experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire.
Senior Nursing Attendant qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.…
