Role Summary

Sr Manager, US Medical Affairs, Virology Scientific Collaboration; serves as the primary contact for US Medical Affairs engagement with external societies and medical-scientific organizations. Acts as a cross-functional partner across USMA Virology with a focus on HIV, HIV Prevention, and Liver Disease. Reports directly to the USMA Virology Scientific Collaboration Sr Director. Position based in Foster City, CA or Parsippany, NJ.

Responsibilities
  • Leads engagements with external societies and scientific/medical organizations.
  • Develops engagement strategies and key initiatives with scientific educational organizations.
  • Works cross-functionally within US Affiliate teams (USMA, Commercial, Legal and Medical Governance, Public Affairs and Government Affairs) and on initiatives related to key external collaborations, projects, and working groups.
  • Develops novel medical educational tools and medical symposia for conferences based on virology therapeutic area medical strategy.
  • Participates in external scientific engagements in partnership with Gilead Medical Affairs colleagues.
  • Demonstrates integrity, teamwork, accountability, excellence, and inclusion in accordance with applicable ethics and compliance standards.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    MD, PhD, Pharm

    D, NP or PA or other advanced health care degree and 2 years of relevant work experience in HIV, viral hepatitis, or related clinical field.
  • Preferred: 2+ years industry experience.
  • Preferred:
    Ability to cultivate, strengthen, and strategically manage high-impact relationships with external scientific and medical organizations—including professional societies, academic partners, and community leaders.
  • Preferred:
    Proven capability to shape Medical Affairs strategy by integrating scientific insights, organizational priorities, and external landscape trends, and to translate strategic direction into clear, actionable, and measurable implementation plans.
  • Preferred:
    Advanced strategic and organizational skills with a track record of leading complex projects—ensuring alignment, resource coordination, and delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Preferred:
    Strong ability to anticipate emerging needs, proactively manage competing priorities, and allocate resources across concurrent projects by applying sound judgment, risk assessment, and forward-thinking planning.
  • Preferred:
    Strong cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive alignment and foster a culture of shared accountability. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and consistently dependable in meeting ambitious timelines in a rapid, dynamic environment.
  • Preferred:
    Deep understanding of regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements governing Medical Affairs with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Preferred:
    Thrives in a matrixed environment with a high level of autonomy, navigating ambiguity, and driving initiatives forward while maintaining clear communication and engaging partners at all levels of the organization.
Education
