Geotechnical Engineer role at Langan Engineering & Environmental Services in Parsippany, NJ.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and recording data.
  • Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities and monitor conformance with construction documents.
  • Use field testing equipment as part of construction and earthwork monitoring, including a nuclear gauge.
  • Identify and implement solutions to routine and complex field and laboratory problems.
  • Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
  • Review and understand plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches.
  • Document and communicate issues encountered on project sites to the supervisor.
  • Assist in geotechnical modeling and analysis; assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports, plans, and technical specifications.
  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced staff engineers; attend meetings with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
  • Coordinate with other Langan disciplines on multi-discipline projects; perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required;
    Master’s degree with Geotechnical specialty or intent to pursue is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of work-related experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • EIT Certification, or current registration for FE exam.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
  • Desired field oversight/inspection experience in earthwork, piles, load testing, subgrade preparation, utility installation and back filling, and excavation support.
  • Office experience with investigation coordination and geotechnical report writing is a plus.
  • Experience with neighboring structure monitoring during construction is a plus.
  • Experience in assisting project managers with field work coordination and project management support is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to job sites in New Jersey and New York state.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, multitasking, and judgment.
  • Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment; reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $68,000 - $88,500
. Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials. Overtime eligibility and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program may apply. Benefits include up to 20 days paid vacation, 10 paid sick days, and 10 paid holidays, plus comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, and retirement plan options.
