SummaryDirects, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility. This transitional position provides field experience and education in a supervised manner, preparing the individual for an eventual Project Engineer role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Design major portions of an assigned project
- Solve complex problems and calculations using engineering formulas and skills
- Evaluate research by others and write reports
- Assist the Project Engineer in preparing proposal estimates of time and expenses required to complete the project
- Assist the Project Engineer in scheduling staffing requirements for field projects
- Assist the Project Engineer in supervising and instructing field personnel on projects assigned to them
- Plan and implement engineering programs, defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements, per customer requirements
- Develop and maintain a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project
- Provide reports on the status of project milestones and adjust schedules accordingly
- Control expenditures within the limitations of the project budget
- Identify project staffing requirements and coordinate staffing with supporting organizational managers
- Coordinate preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages
- Assign and oversee project personnel to specific phases or aspects of the project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing
- Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications
- Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems
- Direct integration of technical activities
- Evaluate and present changes for design, specifications, drawing releases, reports, etc. to the Project Engineer and/or Project Manager for approval
- Prepare interim and completion project reports
- Interface with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met
- Provide status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management
- Review project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allocation of available resources to various phases
- Supervise field work and perform field work when needed
- Establish work plan and staffing for each phase of the project and arrange for recruitment or assignment of project personnel
- Confere with project staff to outline work plan and assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
- Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
