Overview

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

Jacobs is focused on cleaning up our communities today to improve tomorrow. We’re looking for a mid-level Environmental Remediation Professional in the New Jersey area to work on an environmental remediation project for a private-sector client. You’ll have the opportunity to help create a more sustainable world by ensuring environmental compliance, environmental management, and health and safety while working on this diverse project.

Jacobs has been selected to implement a challenging design and construction management project for a key Life Sciences client in New Jersey. We are interested in expanding our team to include a mid-level Environmental Remediation Professional who will provide general onsite construction support to our existing project team.

The project, located in central New Jersey, is centered around the excavation and processing of contaminated material. The excavated material contains volatile contaminants requiring the use of Level C personal protective equipment (PPE) routinely. This role will serve as the lead field engineer and will work directly with the Jacobs Construction Project Manager, Construction Manager, Site Safety Manager, and various subcontractors to help facilitate safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective execution of our construction work on this project.

We’ll rely on you to take personal ownership and responsibility for ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and standard operating procedures in the field while supporting continuous improvement. You’ll own and maintain open communication with the Construction Manager, and act as the eyes and ears for your team overseeing subcontractors implementing the work. You’ll take direction from the Construction Manager and be prepared to pivot tasks quickly and efficiently when site and/or construction conditions change.

You will support ensuring consistent implementation of all site-specific health, safety, and environmental plans and objectives. By establishing working relationships, you’ll provide visible support and leadership to project stakeholders by supporting safe execution of complicated, high-risk construction activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with construction oversight, environmental remediation, air monitoring (such as in the breathing zone with a photo ionization detector [PID] or similar), air monitoring equipment maintenance and calibration, field documentation, and supporting management of day-to-day construction operations. You’ll be tasked with supporting daily construction oversight activities, daily management and coordination with construction subcontractors, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of air monitoring equipment, construction documentation, and supporting the project team with daily needs.

The ideal candidate will be team oriented and can lead by example to demonstrate a culture of inclusion and caring for the craft workforce and broader project stakeholders. This dedicated individual must exhibit excellent communication skills with all members of the project team.

Responsibilities
  • At least three years of experience working on environmental remediation construction sites or in a similar construction-related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Ability to actively work outdoors and lift approximately 40 pounds
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Strong ability to communicate with multiple levels of management within Jacobs and other project stakeholders
  • Self-driven time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with documenting field and/or construction activities in a Logbook and in photo logs
  • Experience with preparing daily construction reports
  • Experience and familiarity with air monitoring equipment, specifically 5-gas meters and PIDs - instrumentation calibration and maintenance…
