About the team

5 North (5N) is a 22-bed medical and surgical ward providing inpatient care with a strong focus on Women’s Health, including gynaecological oncology and breast cancer services. The Women’s Hospital delivers comprehensive care for a wide range of gynaecological conditions and serves as a tertiary referral centre for women experiencing chronic pelvic pain, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, menopause-related concerns, pelvic floor disorders, and other urogynaecological conditions.

Women with medical complications in early pregnancy are managed by the gynaecology units.

About the role

As the Nurse Unit Manager, 5 North Surgical Ward, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, with accountability for the day-to-day management of human, financial and material resources. You will lead a high-performing nursing team, aligning clinical practice with the ward’s strategic direction, operational priorities and quality and safety frameworks.

You will oversee the delivery of safe, efficient and evidence-based nursing care, ensuring high standards of clinical governance and a consistently positive patient experience. Working collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism and compassionate care for every patient on their surgical journey.

About you

The ideal candidate is an engaging and resilient leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills, who leads with empathy, collaborates effectively across disciplines, and inspires trust, accountability and excellence within their team while remaining calm and solutions-focused in a fast-paced surgical environment.

You’ll bring with you:

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Recent clinical management/leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to organise self and others to achieve goals and objectives, and the ability to manage and support others to succeed in their roles
  • Interest in Women’s Health nursing
  • Strong stakeholder engagement
  • Proficiency with using a computer, including Microsoft applications, email and the internet.
Desirable
  • Postgraduate management qualifications or working towards
  • Qualifications or experience in advanced clinical nursing and complex care nursing
