The Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator reports to the Pleasants County Maintenance Headquarters. Under general supervision, this position performs entry level functions in the construction and maintenance of highways.
Duties include:
driving a light truck or vehicle during regular operation and during snow removal and ice control (SRIC); operating equipment such as a fork truck, end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, and brush chipper; and using various hand tools. May assist with answering telephone and radio calls during SRIC and may be responsible for transporting materials or fuel to equipment. Providing traffic control by flagging on job sites.
Selected applicants may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required.
The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program and will be required, within 6 months of employment, to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Progress through the apprenticeship program and opportunity for advancement are dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, and obtaining and maintaining a CDL.
In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator and Mechanic, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
Pay Grade 10H
Hourly Rate: $15.4913
Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesTransportation Worker 1 - Equipment Operator
- Operate a light truck or vehicle.
- Operate a fork truck to load and unload trucks.
- May operate Endloader, Skid Steer, Rollers, Utility Tractor, and Bruch Chipper.
- Control brush and vegetation using hand tools and other equipment.
- Plow snow using a light truck.
- Perform minor maintenance on fleet of equipment and vehicles.
- Answer telephone and radio calls during snow removal and ice control.
- Flags traffic at construction sites.
- Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.
- a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
- Knowledge of general safety procedures.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other motor driven equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment.
- Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor driven equipment.
- Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repair.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn from example and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE – This is the entry level classification in this series. No prior experience is required.
