Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position in an acute care setting, requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital

• Patient population includes post-heart caths, CHF, COPD, arrhythmias, and post-pacemaker patients

• Typical nurse-patient ratio is 1:5, can flex up to 1:6

• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required for travelers

• Self-scheduling and block schedules are available based on unit needs

• Use of Epic EMR system

• Monitor techs are present, but RNs must independently read cardiac strips

• Floating may occur to other hospital units within skillset, such as ICU or Stepdown (rare)

• Orientation includes one day of computer training and one day shadowing with a preceptor

• Teamwork is emphasized, and a supportive unit culture is maintained

• Fast-paced unit with approximately 8-12 admissions and discharges daily; RNs perform their own admissions and discharges

• Royal blue scrubs required; only scrub jackets permitted

• Expect occasional support for High Flow, CPAP, or BIPAP equipment for temporary needs

• Every other weekend and some holiday coverage may be expected based on unit needs

• First time travelers are welcome and teaching is supported on this unit

• Travelers are included in the unit's float rotation and only assigned patients within their competency level

• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not accepted

• Former employees must have a 2-year break before returning as a traveler, and cumulative travel assignment length cannot exceed one year without a 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact state RN license required

• Minimum 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience

• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required

• Proficiency in interpreting cardiac rhythms and reading strips is required

• Ability to titrate Heparin drips;
Cardizem and Amiodarone are not titrated

• Ability to perform EKGs if needed

• Must provide an unexpired driver's license for consideration
