Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU night shift position requiring critical care skills and a WV or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Position is in an 18-bed ICU with all private negative-pressure rooms in an acute care hospital
- Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, CHF, COPD, DKA, overdose, renal failure, neurosurgery, general surgery, MI, and vascular cases
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with 1:1 ratios for CRRT or organ donation and up to 1:3 during overflow or stepdown
- RNs are required to titrate all critical care drips and manage central lines, CRRT, IABP, ventilators, and post-code/therapeutic hypothermia care
- Work schedule is 12-hour night shifts with weekend and possible holiday coverage as needed
- RNs will float to Stepdown and Med Surg units as required
- EMR system used is Epic; completion of Epic education is mandatory before floor assignment
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling is allowed, subject to unit needs
- Primary duties include managing critically ill adult patients and titrating drips per protocol
- RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms using Philips monitoring systems
- Dedicated respiratory therapists are present daily and overnight coverage includes all critical care units
- Pharmacist is available on unit from daily
- Staff required to wear royal blue scrubs; jackets must be scrub jackets, hoodies and sweatshirts are not permitted
- First-time travelers may be considered
- Candidates cannot work at any WVU location for more than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience, with at least 1 year of critical care required
- Certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS
- Competency with CRRT, IABP, ventilators, vasoactive medications, sedation, paralytics, and post-code hypothermia required
- Must submit an unexpired copy of driver's license for consideration
- Must complete general orientation, Epic EMR education, and all competency modules before starting
- Must meet local candidate eligibility: no local travelers, must live more than 50 miles from the facility
- Returning travelers must have a 2-year break if previously employed or worked within the health system or any WVU Medicine location
