MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Must possess current or temporary Nuclear Medicine license as required by state board where services will be provided.
- MD:
Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Maryland Board of Physicians. - OH:
Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Ohio Department of Health. - PA:
No state license required. - VA:
Radiological Technologist license through the Virginia Board of Medicine. - WV:
Nuclear Medicine License or Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
- MD:
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within six months of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:
- Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in‑services, and competency validation.
- Differentiating various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
- Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
- Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, and explosive gases.
- Exposure to ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation.
- Exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants.
- Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
- Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
- Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age or ability.
- Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care and safety.
