Handles a full range of tasks in support of construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal infrastructure, including town parks, open space, trails, streets, sidewalks, rights‑of‑way, water system, sewer system, storm water, buildings and other structures, landscaped and improved areas.
SupervisionWorks under the direct supervision of the Director of Parks and Public Works and receives general direction of the Parks and Public Works Maintenance III.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists in maintaining and repairing all town parks, open space, trails and public works facilities.
- Participates in building and facility maintenance activities. Paints, cleans, changes lights, completes basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical jobs, sets up rooms and completes related tasks.
- Participates in all public grounds and parks grounds maintenance activities. Mows, trims, chips, plants, maintains public amenities, replaces signs, fencing, trash cans, benches, tables, playground equipment, bathrooms and other facilities, pick up trash and other related duties as assigned.
- Select appropriate materials and equipment to complete the work according to specifications, verbal instructions, and established procedures. As necessary, adapt equipment and materials to meet specific requirements.
- Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles as needed.
- Maintains all public facilities and park amenities as assigned.
- Assists in setting up holiday/seasonal decorations and supporting Town special events.
- Maintains an up‑to‑date inventory of the parts and equipment.
- Picks up and disposes of trash on a regular basis as directed from all parks, downtown area and other facilities.
- Assists in repairing and maintaining town irrigation systems: testing, installing, repairing, cleaning and adjusting of sprinklers and valves.
- Assist in snow plowing/shoveling when necessary.
- Participates in the maintenance, repair, and construction of town streets and sidewalks-including asphalt patching, installing culverts, cleaning catch basins, sanding streets, plowing snow, replacing and installing street signs and other duties as assigned.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of the municipal water, sewer and storm water systems.
- Locates Utilities.
- Use of a variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools including motorized, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
- Inspect ditches, drainage areas and roadside shoulders for trash and debris, clean up as appropriate.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned.
- May work weekends or on call as assigned.
- Other duties as required and or assigned.
- Ability to operate light to heavy specialized equipment as assigned to complete tasks safely and effectively.
