Job Summary
This position is open to current Colorado residents only. The role will receive a short‑staffing temporary pay differential of 4% through June 30, 2026. It will provide specialized nursing services to complex medical and psychiatric developmental and intellectual disability individuals living in ICF‑IID group homes.
Primary Duties- Triage: receives calls, determines action for resident health issues; approves PRN medications, unscheduled health care services; responds to behavioral problems.
- Travel to community homes or program settings as needed.
- Arrange and assist medical providers with physical examinations.
- Document services per nursing and agency standards.
- Transcribe medical orders per nursing protocols and electronic systems.
- Provide supervision to Licensed Psychiatric Technicians (LPT), Qualified Medication Administration Persons (QMAP), and LPNs as required by scope of practice.
- Respond to acute illness or trauma; analyze data and make treatment decisions.
- Formulate intervention levels and evaluate treatment plan effectiveness.
- Supervise medication administration and delivery of health care services to QMAP, LPT, and LPNs.
- Direct workflow related to medication administration; resolve nursing issues; provide training and guidance for medication and treatment administration, blood sugar testing, ventilator and trach care, oral suctioning, etc.
- Review medication administration records, observe patient status, and assess treatment effectiveness.
- Conduct nursing skills review training as assigned.
- Develop and train medical protocols (seizure, diabetic, skin care) for Direct Care Providers.
- Administer medications outside LPT/direct–care scope, including IM and IV routes.
- Valid, active Registered Nurse License issued by the State of Colorado (or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact).
- Two (2) years of professional nursing experience (additional education substitutes for experience on a year‑for‑year basis).
- Two (2) years of full‑time inpatient nursing experience.
- CDHS employees undergo background checks (CBI, court database, Medicare fraud database, etc.).
- State of Colorado residency required at time of application and throughout employment.
- Must possess a valid, non‑restricted Colorado Driver’s License or US Driver’s License (if within 30 miles of Colorado border); out‑of‑state license holders must obtain Colorado license within 30 days.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Pre‑employment physical test: ability to lift 50 lbs and perform required physical tasks.
- Vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado;
Tuberculosis test upon hire. - 24/7 facility—must be available for any shift, any day, and any area.
- Travel to remote sites required; must use state vehicle if available (otherwise personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement).
