Overview
The Pinery Water and Wastewater District is seeking an experienced wastewater mechanic/operator to join our team. We are a water and wastewater service provider located in eastern Douglas County, dedicated to providing "Quality Water for LIFE" to nearly 15,000 customers.
Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, and perform laboratory testing of water reclamation systems at the Pinery Wastewater Treatment Facility.
- Execute preventative, predictive, and emergency maintenance to maximize facility efficiency and ensure cleanliness and appearance of the plant.
- Monitor and troubleshoot equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, seals, valves, and solids-handling equipment; observe, report, and correct issues in accordance with operating procedures, safety standards, and permit requirements.
- Collaborate with team members and operate under the supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent.
- State of Colorado Wastewater Operator Certification and Collections 1, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.
- Ambitious, self-motivated with a desire to learn; high mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance.
- Experience with mechanical, chemical, and electrical equipment in an industrial setting.
- Ability to observe, monitor, and correct issues in compliance with procedures, safety standards, and permits.
- Collaborative team member with strong initiative and a safety mindset; able to work in a on-call rotation (within 45 minutes of the WWTP).
- Ability to read equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs; experience with CMMS and preventive/corrective maintenance programs.
- 3–5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in wastewater, water, industrial, or similar facilities.
- Working knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, seals, valves, and solids-handling equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical systems critical to plant operations.
- Experience reading equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
- Fluency with preventive and corrective maintenance programs and CMMS documentation.
- Advanced understanding of wastewater treatment processes and how mechanical systems support compliance.
- Familiarity with welding, fabrication, rigging, and alignment; basic electrical awareness; safety-focused around energized equipment.
- Strong safety mindset with experience in confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.
Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.; paid holidays off.
Compensation and BenefitsStarting pay targeted between $25.00 and $48.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications. Compensation is competitive. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and a retirement savings plan with employer contribution match of up to 9% eligible immediately.
