Position: Media Specialist Canon City School District Fremont Re-1

Position Type:
Full-time, 169 days per year

Salary:
Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule and based on years of experience and education $17.86-$20.09 per hour.

Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the school library media center. Manage and supervise a high-functioning library space and the technology associated with it. Provide students and staff with support for digital and print resources. Additionally, organize and oversee the district Chromebook check-in and check-out process, including handling work orders for broken or damaged devices and maintaining ongoing communication with the IT department.

Education:

Associate’s degree or two years of college courses (48 hours) preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in a library, school, or office setting. Experience working with children.

Licenses/Certificates:
Valid Colorado Driver's License, Substitute License when needed

Other Criteria:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Proven effective people skills with an ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public.
  • Word processing/keyboarding skills with proficiency in Google Suite programs
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Organizational and time management skills, including filing and record keeping, inventory management, the ability to handle multiple tasks, and flexibility
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.

  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts for the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.

Essential Duties of the Job: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.)

  • Operate the district library software system.
  • Circulate materials, place holds, process overdue materials, and inter-library loans.
  • Relate school-wide educational needs to book and media availability
  • Responsible for inventory and repair work orders for technology devices for the school.
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships with peers, students, parents, and the public.
  • Schedule use of media supplies and equipment
  • Responsible for the budget for library supplies
  • Responsible for the purchase of library materials
  • Maintain privacy and accuracy of student records
  • Manage and assist students in the library space, either in small groups or whole classrooms
  • Have knowledge of the school's discipline policies.
  • Provide literature appreciation and modeling, which may include reading aloud to students for scheduled classes
  • Inspect and repair books/materials
  • Maintain records, communicate with parents and students regarding lost or damaged books, and collect money for lost or damaged library books
  • Advise students and teachers in research methods and selection of books and materials
  • Always strive to stay on task and produce high-quality work
