As a member of the Communications Section
, you’ll be at the heart of operations, providing 24-hour emergency services to residents in Parker and Lone Tree
. Your work will directly impact the safety and well-being of the community. Communications technicians play a pivotal role in coordinating responses to emergencies and non-emergencies, ensuring the efficient flow of information to officers and residents alike.
- Provide vital 24-hour emergency services for Parker and Lone Tree residents.
- Handle a wide variety of calls for service, including emergency and non-emergency incidents.
- Use multi-tasking skills to manage up to ten computer screens while answering incoming phone calls and communicating over the radio.
- Process approximately 9,700 calls for service per month as a team, coordinating with local and regional agencies to direct responses.
- Serve as the first point of contact in critical situations, ensuring information is relayed efficiently and first responders are dispatched.
- Answer emergent and non-emergent phone calls; assess, dispatch appropriate police and other emergency services; operate radios; document incident details quickly and accurately.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Two years of increasingly responsible related experience; two years of call taking or emergency dispatch experience preferred.
- Skill in verbal and written communication; ability to learn geography and street systems; ability to prioritize multiple events and make rapid, sound judgments under pressure.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining calm in emergency and stressful situations; adhere to policy and confidentiality requirements; pass a pre-employment background check including drug screen, criminal history, credit check and polygraph exam.
- Ability to operate office/dispatch equipment and use computer applications relevant to the role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a broad range of people.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and take appropriate action in emergencies.
- Ability to hear clearly and use telephone/radio headsets; active listening and empathy with callers.
- Applications reviewed by Communications Management Staff as received; testing emails sent upon approval.
- Interviews conducted periodically; candidates notified by phone, text, or email.
- Backgrounds and chief interviews ongoing.
The full salary range for this position is $30.50 - $42.70 per hour.
