Responsibilities
- Produce staffing assignments and work schedules, maintain adequate staffing levels and coverage.
- Coordinate employee activities throughout the day to ensure provision of services according to established procedures.
- Monitor accuracy and functionality of the Tele Tracking System including troubleshooting, programming new parameters and assigning new user access.
- Keeps abreast of high census areas and regulates transport accordingly.
- Assist in dispatching when short staffed or in times of large workload demands to ensure timeliness of service.
- Approve schedule changes and vacation requests.
- Maintain attendance records.
- Maintain department productivity reports.
- Coordinate the purchase and maintenance of equipment (wheelchairs and carts) used by the department to ensure availability and promptness of service. Selects, orients, develops, and evaluates associates maintaining a highly motivated staff capable of performing needed services which comply with standards set by the department, hospital, Accrediting Organization and other regulatory agencies.
- Interview employment candidates and select the most appropriate person for hire.
- Schedule new employees for hospital orientation as well as department orientation.
- Complete performance reviews of staff in a timely manner and establish development plans for each employee to motivate attainment of goals.
- Determine salary increases.
- Process and document corrective action, progressive disciplinary action, and termination of employees.
- Process Report Express payroll.
- Maintain employee records.
- Develop standards for attire and performance and provide effective quality service for patients through quality assurance.
- Conduct monthly meetings to provide information and open communications.
- Support and enforce hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
- Quality assurance – participate in bed management team to ensure timely transport of patients being discharged.
- Track Quality Assurance indicators and productivity and compile monthly productivity reports.
- Provide training based on identified needs.
- Participate in Patient Safety team to ensure proper patient identification and safety. Provide assistance and support to staff.
- Interact with staff throughout the hospital.
- Communicate with nursing, etc., to discuss work-related issues. Attend regular meetings or committees.
- Communicate with patients and families and health care team in a competent, courteous and professional manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate appropriately with patients of various ages (children, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
- Transport patients during staff shortages in the department. (Less than 5%).
- Provide information (manpower hours needed, equipment and supplies needed) to prepare budget and assist in developing goals in conjunction with the Manager of Clinical Operations and CRU.
- Respond to emergency codes within the transport department. Participate in self-development by attending mandatory in services.
- Attend inservice programs on equipment use and operation.
- High School education.
- Recognize needs and behaviors of patients treated (e.g., understand child growth and development, normal adolescent behavior, signs of normal aging); prior experience with various age groups preferred.
- 5-6 years hospital/patient transportation experience including 1-2 years lead or supervisory experience.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate patient, employee and unit needs and refer for appropriate action.
- Customer service skills.
- Ability to read and write English.

- Main Responsibilities are Mon-Friday first shift 06:00–14:30 or Second Shift 14:30–23:00. Ability to work holidays and on different shifts to accommodate staffing needs.
- Ability to perform lifting/standing activities related to patients. Ability to perform very heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly).
- Ability to maneuver and operate equipment used by the department.
- Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients.
- Ability to assist in event of a fire or other disaster.
- Work environment includes exposure to adverse, hazardous or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick. This description covers the general nature and level of work expected; incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
