Department: 37102 Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Neuropsychology

Status: Full time

Schedule Details/Additional Information: Monday-Friday 8a-430p/830a-5p - start and end times might vary slightly on a day to day basis depending on scheduled appointments

Pay Range
: $26.55 - $39.85

Major Responsibilities
  • Test Administration and Scoring
    • 1) Performs technical interpretations (scoring) of routine level procedures by both manual and computer analysis.
    • 2) Test administration and scoring is appropriate for age and cognitive status of each patient as discussed with the supervising psychologist.
    • 3) Administers routine psychological and neuropsychological tests according to test standards and departmental guidelines.
    • 4) Instructs patients in the use of self-report testing, reviews patient’s self-report data and scores the test(s).
    • 5) Attends bimonthly group supervision sessions. Seeks out assistance from Neuropsychological Tech II and psychologists for individual supervision as needed
  • Documentation
    • 1) Provides complete documentation for each procedure performed and maintains necessary records. Reports behavioral observations. Reviews patient’s existing records to aid in the assessment of the test data. Interprets test data under direct supervision of psychologist.
  • Scheduling Procedures
    • 1) Upon receipt of referral, schedules services for inpatients and outpatients.
    • 2) Communicate effectively with physicians, hospital staff and patients. Demonstrates a tolerance for new ideas and suspends initial judgements, gives and accepts constructive feedback.
  • Skill Development
    • 1) Attain knowledge and skills necessary to perform intermediate and advance level procedures and preliminary interpretations of these procedures by both manual and computer analysis.
  • In-service/Presentation Development
    • 1) Assists in the development and presentation of in-service education for hospital staff and community. Aids in the development and maintenance of a library of literature on clinical and assessment issues.
    • 2) Performs assigned duties on research projects.
  • Other Activities
    • 1) Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
    • 2) Understands the principles of CQI and works with other employees to improve processes within psychological services and with other departments as necessary.
    • 3) Attends CQI in-services and workshops offered by the hospital.
    • 4) Functions as a team member on the CQI and various departmental teams.

Education/Experience

Required:

  • - Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field. Beginning graduate level coursework in psychological and neuropsychological testing preferred.

    -experience and exposure to psychological assessment with diverse patient populations and diagnostic groups preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:

  • - Demonstrated knowledge of routine neuropsychological tests (WAIS-IV, WISC-V) preferred.

    - good patient rapport skills - basic computer literacy - good communication skills - good organizational skills - has basic exposure to psychological terminology - behavioral observations convey patient behaviors
  • CPR



Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

  • - Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints - Work may be performed on inpatient units at bedside with outpatients in department - interact with both medical and psychological patients - flexible with work schedule and hours
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

    Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
