Drake Logistics is looking for an experienced DOT Director to lead and oversee all regulated and non-regulated fleet operations. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations while building a strong safety-first culture across our driver and fleet operations.

Duties
  • Oversight of all Regulated and Non-Regulated Fleet vehicles and drivers
  • Ensuring all vehicles have proper documentation required by law.
  • Confirm all drivers are legally able to operate fleet vehicles.
  • Oversight of driver onboarding and driver performance
  • Monitor and acknowledge all driver performance.
  • Ensure fleet performance exceeds industrial and regulatory requirements. Evaluates fleet & driver statistics to establish trends
  • Requires working in hot (90°F+) and cold (32°F-) temperatures.
  • Requires walking on terrain that may be uneven, muddy, and slippery.
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to diesel exhaust, dust, and water mist or vapor.
  • Variable lighting conditions, dependent upon available natural light.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for registration, insurance compliance, and permits for all company equipment.
  • Maintain internal database with current driver status, license information, and DOT compliance information.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain effective driver safety training programs in compliance with OSHA, FMCSR and company safety policies, including proper usage of the Samsara system.
  • Schedule and conduct regular ride-along sessions to ensure driver compliance, positive safety habits, and identify challenges/trends.
  • Develop a driver and fleet scorecard to track overall safety and compliance performance.
  • Ensure drivers remain compliant with annual physicals, drug/alcohol screenings, and driver license renewals in accordance with all state, federal and local laws.
  • Manage driver logs to ensure timely and accurate completion, as well as compliance with Federal DOT regulations.
  • Report non-compliant drivers or incidents to General Manager for corrective action/discipline.
  • Investigate and track all accidents to meet both company and FMCSA/DOT requirements, including post-accident drug/alcohol testing and re-training.
  • Build and maintain Driver Qualification files.
  • Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings.
  • Develop plans to reduce and prevent safety incidents/accidents by monitoring the use of safety/compliance technology (Samsara) and analyzing trend data based on those results. Promotes a “Safety Focused” culture throughout the company that incorporates operations, safety, and maintenance departments.
  • Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents through on-scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to the corporate Human Resources Department in accordance with company policy.

  • Perform daily updates and routine reviews of data in the Samsara system for accuracy and compliance; create and generate monthly DQ reports; provide related reports as requested.
  • Remain current on changes to federal, state and local transportation and environmental regulations; analyze and communicate critical information to management; maintain a library of relevant resources.
  • Develop transportation plans and programs that comply with applicable regulations; create inspection and training schedules.
  • Represent the department at industry committees and working groups, as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate fleet management including commercial vehicles and driver safety programs; consult with the employee & Asset Manager as applicable.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports and other required documentation for vehicle, equipment maintenance facilities, and transportation related programs
  • Prepare training materials and provide orientations and presentations related to transportation and safety programs; serve as the department’s technical expert.
