The Role
As a Transportation Manager, you are responsible for managing our team of pneumatic truck drivers & material dispatchers.
Duties include:
- Supervise and provide support to direct reports with fleet management efficiency regarding scheduling and route planning, fleet maintenance and repairs.
- Identify operational deficiencies and areas of opportunity based on systematic processes. Develop reasonable solutions within business budgets and means.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal DOT regulations. Keep up to date with changing laws and regulations to ensure the organization adheres to them.
- Implement innovative and effective safety programs and policies to minimize accidents and injuries and actively engage with the workforce to reinforce safe behaviors.
- Manage transportation budget to minimize costs while maintaining service quality. Monitor expenses, negotiate contracts with third party transportation services and find cost-savings opportunities.
- Collect and analyze transportation data, including performance metrics and key performance indicators, to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
- Communicate company initiatives and pursue best practices. Identify underperformance and establish corrective action. Develop and motivate direct reports.
- Possess a safety-first mindset that drives all decision making.
- Prior supervisory experience with excellent organizational skills is a must.
- Thorough understanding of FMCSA regulations governing truck driver hours of service, driver qualifications, and vehicle maintenance.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Possess excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to collect information from various sources related to delivery, driver, and vehicle performance and deliver compiled information in an organized manner.
- Understanding of trucking costs and the impact that effective equipment utilization can have on these costs.
- Solid computer skills with high level competence in the use of Microsoft Excel.
- Varying weather conditions in the local area including: temperature extremes, dust, rain, wind and snow.
- Exposure to gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oils, anti-freeze, cement dust and electrical systems.
- Hearing protection and respiratory use required in designated locations.
- Requires the physical endurance to work 50-60 hours per week over a period of 5 - 6 days.
- Requires the ability to climb heights (steps, ladders and ramp walkways with handrails).
