Learning Support Specialist

Under the supervision of the building principal, the Learning Support Specialist will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

• Possesses a deep understanding of the relationships among content area knowledge, pedagogy, professional learning, and school improvement.
• Applies knowledge about adult learning to develop and implement structures that support adult learning and collaboration.
• Is recognized by peers as a teacher leader.
• Is knowledgeable about research-based professional development models, powerful professional development designs, and multiple forms of coaching.
• Guides and facilitates the application of research which supports on‑going, job‑embedded professional development where teachers support each others' professional growth and focus on the school's unique goals and needs.
• Teaching and Learning (curriculum, instruction, assessment) and moves the school improvement plan forward.
• Guides team and classroom collaboration which produces shared understandings and thoughtful development of professional practice.
• Purposefully made instructional decisions (standards based instruction & assessment; differentiation; analysis of student work; effective feedback)
• Collaboration of teachers to effectively monitor and adjust instruction so that equity is assured and so that all students meeting rigorous standards with a focus on planning, teaching, and achievement.
• Provides and protects time for job‑embedded professional learning, such as mentoring, coaching, feedback, study groups, peer observation, and learning teams.
• Facilitates teacher proficiency with the new strategies through classroom follow‑up
• Evaluates the implementation and impact of professional learning on teacher practices, continuous school improvement, and student learning.
• Accepts other duties as assigned by the principal.
• Educational Leadership certification
• Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb and lift items of approximately 20 pounds throughout the workday.
