Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Paramus, NJ (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM). This hospital‑based position is located on From Road.
Pay range: $30.75 – $50.73 per hour, with eligibility for annual performance bonus based on skill, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications.

Responsibilities
  • Proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshooting applicable instruments and procedures.
  • Support quality control, complex problem resolution, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Maintain turnaround times for all results, including stats or critical results.
  • Track reagent/test kit dates and make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
  • Report deviations from standard procedures and cooperate in investigations.
  • Enter results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
  • Maintain a safe, functional, and sanitary laboratory environment.
  • Complete training and competency checklists.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other personnel.
  • Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment and other safety controls as directed.
  • Answer client or lab personnel queries.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • Assume lead responsibilities when a supervisor is absent, if qualified and delegated.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • One (1) year full‑time experience in a clinical laboratory, high‑complexity testing in Chemistry, Hematology & Oncology.
  • Preferred:
    Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with current year in the department.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lift and carry up to 10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb rarely; >50 lb not without assistance.
  • Ability to stand and work at a bench for long periods.
  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Manual dexterity for pipettes and laboratory instruments.
Knowledge
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies.
  • B.S./B.A. in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or an associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.‑educated candidates must provide original transcripts.
  • Other state‑specific requirements may apply depending on certification; check with local HR or QA.
Skills
  • Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.
  • Detail‑oriented, independent, able to set priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills for courteous and effective interaction with supervisors, co‑workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills for handling telephone inquiries.
  • Confidential handling of client information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and laboratory information systems.
Education
  • Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
  • ASCP Certification (preferred).
