Job SummaryThe HSS Orthopedics Now program provides consistent, immediate access for patients 12 years and older with an undiagnosed musculoskeletal injury or sudden onset of pain to be triaged, receive an initial diagnosis, and, if appropriate, quickly connected to the right subspecialized level of care.
The HSS Orthopedics Now Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) sees patients at an HSS location to triage, diagnose, treat, and when needed, refer patients to a higher level of care in an expedited timeframe. The NP/PA works autonomously, in collaboration with, and with the support of HSS physicians. The NP/PA provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services and is responsible for diagnosing and treating acute musculoskeletal injuries including, but not limited to:
Responsibilities- Diagnose and treat acute musculoskeletal injuries including bone, joint, or muscle injuries; strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures; painful or swollen joints; back and neck pain; osteoarthritis; pediatric injuries (12+); sports injuries; steroid injections and joint aspirations; general bracing and splinting.
- Provide autonomous clinical assessment and treatment within scope, with collaboration from HSS physicians as needed.

Job QualificationsEducation – Required
- Physician Assistant:
Bachelor’s degree;
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; graduate of a CAAHEP accredited PA program - Nurse Practitioner:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing;
Master’s degree in Nursing
Certifications/Licensure – Required
- Physician Assistant:
Active license in New Jersey (willingness to obtain NY, CT); NCCPA certification; continuing medical education requirements;
Infection Control Certificate; child abuse recognition; ACLS/BLS; DEA license - Nurse Practitioner:
Active license in New Jersey (willingness to obtain NY, CT); board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., ANCC, AANP);
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP); ACLS/BLS; DEA license
Experience – Required
- At least 2 years in musculoskeletal/orthopedic practice
- At least 2 years in post-op orthopedic care setting
- Experience with injections, aspirations, and splinting
Experience – Preferred
- 1-2 years practicing in outpatient or ambulatory settings
- Sports medicine and/or emergency medicine experience
Skills – Required

- Critical thinking and up-to-date clinical knowledge; ability to apply evidence-based practice
- Time management, organization, flexibility for varied schedules
