Responsibilities
  • Carry out all duties required to maintain optimum levels of cleanliness and disinfection in patient care, ancillary, and public areas of the hospital, including resident/patient rooms, bathrooms, nursing stations, ancillary rooms, lounges, waiting areas, public restrooms, and examination rooms.
  • Complete responsibilities as assigned or directed accurately and timely. Follow the 5-Step Cleaning process and other departmental processes to dust and mop all floors, damp mop spills, recondition floors, spot wash walls, complete cleaning of patient rooms (beds, Venetian blinds, furniture, etc.), dust furniture, wash and polish wooden and metal furniture, dispose of rubbish properly, clean all restroom areas, and restock supplies as necessary.
  • Operate all cleaning equipment and supplies used by the department for cleaning or buffing jobs.
  • Move heavy objects such as beds, desks, and copy machines for cleaning purposes.
  • Identify medical waste from regular waste and dispose of it in accordance with hospital regulations.
  • Perform hand hygiene before and after transport of a patient.
  • Wear the provided laboratory coat during patient transport.
  • Escort patients within the Medical Center to and from patient units via appropriate means (wheelchair, bed, stretcher) and assist nursing with patient lifts when requested.
  • Transport deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
  • Maintain records of assignments, including description of person/item, time of pick-up and delivery, and obtain appropriate signatures.
  • Ensure safety and comfort of patients (fasten safety straps on wheelchairs and beds, secure IV poles, ensure IV bags are full, check that patients have proper covers).
  • Keep equipment (stretchers, wheelchairs) clean and in good repair.
  • Participate in mandatory educational and in-service programs.
  • Provide customer service that is respectful, flexible, knowledgeable, confident, professional, helpful, pleasant, and patient, responding in a timely, caring, and respectful manner.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Be familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
  • Possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification and perform lifesaving skills.
Other Duties

Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.

Position Qualifications
  • Housekeeping experience is a plus but not required. Formal on-the-job training provided.
  • Minimum of 1 year previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Speak, read, and write English to the extent required by the position.
  • Possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification and perform lifesaving skills.
Education

High School Diploma or equivalency.

  • Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs. or more).
  • Frequent prolonged standing/walking.
  • Push, pull, or move heavy equipment/supplies.

  • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $17.51 per hour, with a $1.00 differential for evening/night and weekend shifts. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision plans; generous vacation, personal time, sick leave, and 9 paid holidays; tuition reimbursement; and continuing education opportunities.
