Job Duties
  • Carry out duties to maintain optimum cleanliness and disinfection in patient care, ancillary, and public hospital areas including patient rooms, bathrooms, nursing stations, lounges, public restrooms, and examination rooms.
  • Follow the 5‑Step Cleaning process and other departmental processes: dusting, mopping, damp mopping spillage, reconditioning floors, spot washing walls, cleaning patient rooms (beds, blinds, furniture), polishing wooden and metal furniture, disposing of rubbish properly, and cleaning restrooms (toilets, mirrors, countertops, sinks); restock supplies as needed.
  • Operate all cleaning equipment and supplies used by the department for various cleaning or buffing jobs.
  • Move heavy objects such as beds, desks, copy machines for cleaning purposes.
  • Identify medical waste from regular waste and dispose of it appropriately following hospital regulations.
  • Perform hand hygiene before and after patient transport.
  • Wear the provided laboratory coat during patient transport.
  • Escort patients to and from patient units via appropriate means (wheelchair, bed, stretcher); assist nursing staff with patient lifting when requested.
  • Transport deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
  • Maintain records of assignments, including description of person/item, time of pick‑up and delivery, and obtaining required signatures.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort (e.g., safety straps, IV pole attachment, proper covers).
  • Keep equipment such as stretchers and wheelchairs clean and in good repair.
  • Participate in mandatory educational and in‑service programs.
  • Demonstrate customer service by maintaining respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, helpfulness, pleasant attitude, and patience; respond timely, professionally, caring, and respectfully.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Understand and follow the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct, Mission, Vision, and Values statements.
  • Possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification; perform lifesaving skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Position Qualifications
  • Housekeeping experience is a plus but not required; formal on‑the‑job training will be provided.
  • Minimum of 1 year previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Speak, read, and write English to the extent required by the position.
  • Possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification; perform lifesaving skills.
Education

High School Diploma or equivalency.

Job Setting / Physical Demands

All areas of the Medical Center. Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs. or more), frequent prolonged standing/walking, pushing/pulling or moving heavy equipment/supplies, considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching, manual dexterity and mobility, lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.

Salary & Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range. $17.51 per hour + $1.00 EVE NIGHT & WEEKEND differential.
