The coordinator works closely with referring physicians’ practices to obtain clinical information, verify and intake patient insurance details, precertify procedures, obtain authorizations from insurers, and schedule appointments in line with departmental policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities- Handle precertification procedures by collecting insurance information and entering data into SMS.
- Use the Insurance Eligibility Verification system and explain the process to patients.
- Verify insurance benefits/coverage by contacting insurance companies.
- Obtain insurance information for procedure precertification.
- Schedule patients and manage appointment files.
- Request and retrieve medical records and pathology reports from hospitals, clinics, or physicians’ offices.
- Enter computer data to ensure integrity of patient history and appointment files.
- Provide daily departmental schedule to patient transport and security.
- Collect co‑pays and deductibles and post them in the finance system per HUMC cash collections/reconciliation procedure.
- Process all requests for medical records.
- Identify needs of the patient population and adapt care accordingly; communicate with patients, parents, or primary caregivers at appropriate development/education/literacy level.
- Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience with health insurance verification and precertification procedures.
- Proficient in computer use.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Minimum rate of $23.97 per hour. Base compensation will be determined at the time of offer and may differ based on experience, education, and market data. Shift differentials may apply for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
