Program / Project Manager, Operations Manager
Director of Engineering will lead our engineering department. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring all operations within the department, hiring and training new team members, implementing engineering practices and goals, and planning and coordinating engineering projects. You will set departmental objectives, requirements, and time frames and research innovative technologies for improving the team’s performance.
Additionally, you will manage the department’s budgeting and expenses, oversee the development of engineering products and processes, and establish strategies that aim to improve overall business success. Ultimately, you will build and foster business relationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide motivation and guidance to team members.
You will be collaborating closely with other departments and senior management.
To ensure success as a Director of Engineering, you should have an outstanding technical background, leadership, communication, strategic thinking, and project management skills
Primary Responsibilities Technical and Business Leadership- Develop and execute the engineering roadmap in alignment with company goals.
- Oversee technology infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security and the adoption of the best industry standards and practices.
- Manage and oversee all operations and aspects of the engineering department by ensuring that engineering standards are maintained, policies and procedures are observed, KPIs and objectives are set to boost efficiency and quality.
- Build and foster business relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with the upper management about important matters and any issues that may arise
- Prepare, manage and oversee the departmental budgets, including resource allocation and tool procurement. Conduct or acquire cost analysis for development projects; prepares or delegates preparation of schedule of project completion dates. Coordinate and monitor engineering projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budgets
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organizations industry.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design process, ensuring long-term stability.
- Lead engineering projects by setting objectives, requirements, and time frames. Deliver according to the set due dates/time frames.
- Contribute towards innovative technologies to improve the department’s success.
- Oversee the development of engineering products and processes
- Develop new procedures and processes as necessary
- Develop, review, and execute required documentation to maintain compliance of products in the market
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure all engineering change orders/notices are distributed to quality and supply chain managers for review and approval.
- Necessary prioritization publishing of project schedules
- Organize online technical library and conduct research when needed
- Ensure the upkeep of hard copy and electronic project filing systems, archiving, and general organizational efforts to keep the department running smoothly
- Calibration, maintenance, and repair of engineering equipment.
- Conduct periodic staff meetings and fulfill other department managerial functions pertaining to development and coordination of engineering projects and strategies.
- Recruit, manage and mentor engineering teams (employees, supervisors, and managers) to build a high-performance and inclusive culture.
- Create a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration-driving engagement and shared ownership across the engineering organization.
- Set clear goals and development plans for team members, enabling career growth and continuous learning.
- Ensure the team operates efficiently using Agile methodologies, optimizing workflows for high-impact delivery.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration, ensuring strong partnerships with product, QA, and compliance teams.
- Ensure engineering teams operate with clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and strong alignment to product and platform objectives.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Software Engineering is required. Master’s Degree is preferred.
- At least 10 years’ experience working in engineering environment with strong technical focus in relevant field.
- 5+ years’ experience managing engineering teams.
- Proven track record of successful project execution and delivery
- Excellent leadership and strategic thinking abilities
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks
- Ability to use Gantt style charts
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and change management experience a plus
- Proficiency in PDM and Microsoft Office including Microsoft Project.
