The Heat Treat Helper assists in all aspects of the Heat Treat Department. The Helper has a flexible role in the Heat Treat group as they are moved into various areas of the operation as needed. This includes Drop Bottom Furnace, Age Air Furnaces, Age Salt Furnaces, Freezers, and outside heat treat deliveries. As a result, the Helper attains skills and training required to be moved to a more specialized and permanent role in the Heat Treat Operations group which best fits the individuals skill set.
MajorJob Duties
- Responsible for the safety, quality, and productivity of the work-center
- Responsible for knowing and achieving daily standard production goal
- Responsible for knowing and achieving scrap and rework goal
- Perform daily inspection of equipment at work-center and report any equipment downtime or maintenance issues
- Ensure that the proper shop floor instructions and QWIs for each forging operation or process are followed
- Perform safe and proper material handling and stacking of completed work pieces using cranes, pallets, tubs, containers, shrink wrap, and plastic or metal banding
- Follow direction of the acting superior, lead man, and/or supervisor
- Learn the fundamentals of forging and heat treating
- Maintain clean and safe working environment; embrace a clean as you go policy
- Report issues to acting lead or supervisor
- Understand and work to daily schedule to achieve the standard
- Learn the basic skills of the helper position which include but are not limited to:
- Safely operate a forklift/manipulator under supervision
- Safely operate applicable cranes under supervision along with the supporting equipment such as slings, scissor clamps, pac-man clamp, etc.
- Understanding the basic functions of the drop bottom furnace, Age Furnaces, and Freezers
- Navigate the necessary functions of the ERP system
- Navigate and understand shopfloor instructions
- Learn how to take electrical conductivity test on forgings
- Properly rack forgings in the correct orientation
- Load, unload and rack forgings in heat-treat furnaces, ensuring specified temperatures and times are reached
- Air dry or cool parts in water or oil brine or other baths
- Job traceability and how to maintain it
- How to position part in HT Fixture or Racks in accordance to plan or Weber Metals best practice
- Assist Operator I & II as needed
- Assist with/service truck deliveries, loading and unloading trucks for outside heat treat vendors
- Report uptime and downtime on all jobs worked (currently logged in ERP system)
- Execute 5S, FOD, Haz Waste procedures on a daily basis
- Participate in daily, monthly, or quarterly audits including but not limited to 5S, FOD, Haz Waste, Safety, Fire, or ISO
- As a key member of Weber Metals, additional responsibilities also include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating importance of the Weber Metals Safety Policy to the success of Weber Metals.
- Demonstrating importance of the Weber Metals Quality Policy to the success of Weber Metals.
- Demonstrating knowledge and awareness of the Weber Metals Environmental Policy.
- Demonstrating knowledge and awareness of the Weber Metals Business Management System.
- Working in a team environment to meet target dates.
- Maintain clean and safe working environment. Embrace a clean as you go policy
- Responsible for reporting to work on time, with proper PPE, and being fully engaged for the entire shift.
- Other duties as assigned
- Be able to comply with ITAR and EAR residency requirements
- Be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 90 days as Heat Treat Helper or equivalent at Weber Metals or similar company
- Experience in the forging or metals industry is preferred
