Public Safety;

THE

POSITION

Under direction, plans, and supports Public Safety programs and trainings, which includes crime prevention, community outreach, and engagement, emergency management, neighborhood beautification, homeless support services, and other special events. Performs specialized clerical work; prepares standard and department‑specific documents; provides customer services on a variety of matters related to Public Safety; and performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

An incumbent in this class receives direct supervision from the Community Preservation Manager. An incumbent in this class does not exercise supervision but may serve as a lead for Public Safety Assistants.

  • Plans and supports a variety of Public Safety programs, trainings, and events.
  • Conducts community outreach to businesses and community organizations for delivery of crime prevention and community enhancement programs.
  • Conducts surveys, data collection, and other necessary research related to Public Safety programs.
  • Works with Sheriff’s Department personnel to research and gather data and analysis on crime statistics and prepares reports regarding trends to identify program needs.
  • Prepares and maintains informational documents and reports on neighborhood outreach activities, progress, and results.
  • Prepares and presents oral presentations before special interest and citizen groups to disseminate information, answer questions, and generate support for Public Safety programs.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring program and special event budgets.
  • Provides support for crime prevention programs, including the organization of meetings, events, and other activities.
  • Assists in the marketing of public safety programs and activities.
  • Works with other city departments, partner agencies, schools, and community organizations to support participation and assistance as needed.
  • Assists in the planning and preparation of public information and special awareness projects and events to promote Public Safety programs.
  • Assists Public Safety Management with miscellaneous department projects, gathers and reports statistical data, and composes departmental letters and correspondence.
  • Responds to customer inquiries, problems, and complaints in person or by telephone; screens calls, receives messages, and/or identifies customer requests; refers customers to appropriate persons regarding services, accounts, or other…
