General Labor
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the close supervision of the Foreman, with general guidance from the Facilities Management Director or designee, performs general mail and package acceptance and delivery tasks. This position exercises some responsibility and independent judgment.
Accept, sort and deliver mail and packages to departments in a timely and accurate manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, County employees, Elected Officials, Department Heads, vendors, and the general public.
Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as needed/directed.
Set up meeting rooms for meetings, events, etc. as requested.
Apply safety practices and procedures commonly used in maintenance work.
Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
SELECTION GUIDELINESFormal application, rating of education and experience, interview, reference checks, successful completion of a national criminal background check, successful completion of a pre-employment physical, and other job related tests or checks as may be required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCESix (6) months of combined bona fide paid work experience, education, and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience to perform the work; work experience in commercial maintenance preferred and/or mail room experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust have and maintain throughout employment a valid Driver’s License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of “acceptable driver standards” as defined by the County.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESSome knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Knowledge of, and ability to learn, specialized computer operating systems.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
Ability to understand, read, and follow exacting verbal and written instructions.
Ability to perform tasks with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to completion.
Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to smell potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic gases, smoke and unusual odors, transmission oils and other related chemicals.
- Ability to accurately communicate/convey information (i.e. speak and hear well enough to converse over machine noises, and to communicate over a two-way radio or telephone) while in a semi-noisy to noisy environment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
