Role purpose:
An Underground Terminator is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of underground electrical power distribution systems. This includes pulling cable, splicing, terminating, and troubleshooting underground electrical lines. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, safety procedures, and the physical ability to work in confined spaces, trenches, and various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair underground electrical power lines and equipment.
  • Pull and lay underground cable in ducts, conduits, or direct-bury systems.
  • Splice and terminate high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cables using proper methods and tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as cable locators, trenchers, diggers, and hydraulic tools.
  • Troubleshoot faults in underground systems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA standards at all times.
  • Assist with switching operations and outage restoration during emergencies or scheduled work.
  • Work collaboratively with other linemen, foremen, and engineers on-site.
  • Complete daily reports, work orders, and documentation of maintenance or installation activities.
Key Qualifications
  • High school diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working on and around energized high-voltage primary electric lines
  • Must possess a valid CDL-A license with clear driving record
  • Must be able to read and understand technical information, manuals, policies, procedures, work orders, blueprints, spec books, system maps and diagrams
  • Must be able to deal with emergency situations, hazardous conditions, multiple priorities, frequent interruptions, and time constraints
  • Must possess leadership skills to provide guidance and training to assigned personnel in a safe effective and positive manner
  • Must be able to understand and use the English language, both oral and written, to communicate information, instructions, and ideas to other personnel
  • Must be able to properly fill out documents and lead Job Hazard Analysis pre-job and post job meetings
  • Must be dependable and trustworthy
  • Train for foreman responsibilities
Key Nice-To-Haves
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CDL Required
  • Completion of a Lineman Apprenticeship Program or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of underground electrical work experience preferred
Certifications & Licenses
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of underground power distribution systems
  • Knowledge of national and local electrical codes
  • Ability to work safely near energized equipment
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment, climb, crawl, and work in confined or outdoor spaces
  • Ability to use hand and power tools effectively
  • Good communication skills and team-oriented mindset
