Akima Mission Optimization (AMO) is looking to hire someone with 5-axis Programming Machinist experience to join the team in Panama City, Florida. You will provide support to Naval Surface Warfare Service (NSWC) within the Machine Shop. The Employee shall provide support to NSWC PC for the Machine Shop.

The employee will provide direct support in performing machine shop operations such as sawing, turning, milling, grinding, and heat treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials. Manually operated and CNC machines made accessible for the job tasking requirements include but are not limited to: lathes, milling machines, cutting saws, tool and cutter grinders, surface grinders, drill presses, heat treatment ovens, layout and measuring tools along with general hand operated equipment associated with the machinist trade.

Support in this area will include numerous tasks which are dissimilar in nature but have in common machining and assembly of metallic and non-metallic materials / components to make completed assemblies per blueprints in accordance with assigned print tolerances. This task includes direct support in performing Machining support, such as but not limited to; production of replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipment.

Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating standard machine tools. This incumbent is responsible for the shaping of metal parts to close tolerances, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining;

knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work; and fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. In general, the machinist's work normally requires a rounded training in machine-shop practice, usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. The Employee will be responsible for gathering required materials, blueprint reading, laying out parts to include figuring feeds and speeds rates, ability to use precision measuring devices, and determining what equipment is necessary to complete the task.

The Employee shall be required to comply with Shop policy concerning regular work area cleanliness and weekly cleanups.

Responsibilities
  • Perform machine shop operations such as sawing, turning, milling, grinding, and heat treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials. The employee shall:
    • Manufacture parts from castings, forging, and other raw stocks made of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials to specifications of drawings per the customers work order. This may include compliance with military specifications or military standards cited within the drawings or specifications.
    • Operate various types of conventional and CNC machine tools and their attachments to perform machining operations.
    • Provide training in Mastercam or available programming software as required to demonstrate proficiency.
    • Interpret drawings and other types of specifications such as sketches or models of parts in order to fabricate a product.
    • Apply knowledge of machining processes in performing machining operations such as boring, drilling, planning, milling, and turning on milling machines, radial, or multiple spindle drill presses, shapers, planers, lathes, engravers, or equivalent types of conventional or CNC machine tools.
    • Plan necessary work sequences, laying out reference points and lines to be followed in the machining processes, plan for and set up the work in the machine.
    • Program the cutter path using Mastercam or available programming software, figure feeds and speeds rates, select and shape metal cutting tools and inserts.
