Economic Development & Opportunity

The Department of Economic Development & Opportunity uses Federal, State, and City resources to grow property, sales, and transient occupancy taxes to fund citywide services. The department supports the Grow Long Beach Economic Blueprint and aims to create an innovative ecosystem for entrepreneurial success from start-up to growth. The department has about 90 employees across five bureaus:
Business Development, Business Operations, Real Estate Development, Waterfront Development, and Workforce Development, with an annual budget of over $31 million from eight City funds.

Position Summary

The Long Beach Department of Economic Development & Opportunity seeks an experienced leader to serve as the first Revenue, Innovation, Strategy, and Enhancement (R.I.S.E.) Division Officer in the Waterfront Development Bureau. The R.I.S.E. Division expands the department’s capacity to manage waterfront assets, implement revenue-generating projects, and support music, entertainment, and tourism growth. The role reports to the Waterfront Development Manager and coordinates with multiple departments and external partners to support long-range planning and execution of revenue-generating projects in the waterfront and Downtown entertainment district.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements plans, strategies, and programs to position Long Beach as a premiere destination for music, entertainment, tourism, and waterfront activity.
  • Leads special projects, such as advertising and sponsorship initiatives, to create new revenue opportunities for the City.
  • Collaborates with the Waterfront Development Bureau Manager, contracted facility operators, tourism and entertainment leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure effective project execution.
  • Works with the Waterfront Development Bureau Manager and Office of Special Events and Filming to activate and promote the waterfront and establish Long Beach as a leading U.S. visitor destination.
  • Provides cross-departmental coordination and support for long-range planning, capital investment strategies, and economic development in the Downtown and waterfront districts.
  • Acts as a liaison to businesses, investors, and tourism partners to attract events, programming, and development aligned with City goals.
