COMMUNITY HEALTH ACTION OF STATEN ISLAND
The Counselor assesses and treats individuals with mental, emotional, or substance abuse problems, including abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs. Activities may include individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, prevention, and education
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Conduct initial client screenings, intake interviews and assessments
- Write and update individual client-based, goal-oriented treatment plans, treatment plan reviews and progress notes
- Conduct individual, group and family counseling sessions (e.g., CBT and Motivational Interviewing)
- Provide crisis intervention counseling to individuals and families
- Maintain detailed client charts in compliance with NYS OASAS and OMIG requirements
- Communicate both written and orally with other service providers
- Participate in case conferences and clinical supervisions
- Provide education to clients and community members about mental or physical illness, abuse medication or available community resources
- Be available and willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed
- Master’s Degree in social work REQUIRED. Experience, under supervision, in effectively conducting and documenting individual substance abuse assessments utilizing evidence-based assessment tools.
- Excellent organizational skills and an orientation toward detail and accuracy
- Additional CASAC certification is preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
