Under the direction of the Director of Campus Operations, the Supervisor of Roads and Grounds serves as head landscaper, and working supervisor of Grounds and Vehicle Maintenance personnel. The Supervisor of Roads and Grounds coordinates the maintenance activities of campus landscaping, parking areas, secondary roads, walkways, traffic control signs, athletic fields, snow removal, trash and rubbish removal, and maintenance of college vehicles.
The Supervisor of Roads and Grounds is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Associate’s degree or higher (in horticulture, landscape architecture, or related field) AND/OR (10) years of experience in grounds/nursery including lawn maintenance chemicals and equipment required.
- Three (3) or more years supervisory experience required, preferably grounds-related.
- Current Illinois Pesticide License (applicator-turf) and a valid driver’s license to operate light and medium trucks.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. In addition to the qualifications above, the Supervisor of Roads and Grounds must have the ability to lead, supervise and assist the Grounds crew in providing attractive and clean campus grounds, creating a campus environment that is comfortable and welcoming to students, staff and visitors.

General Hours – Monday – Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Salary/Wage: $26.30-$30.00/hour (plus exceptional benefits)
