Position: Registered Nurse- Prep & Recovery Part-time Days

Overview

This position is a pre-op/Phase II RN role. Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with potential to begin at 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. as needed. One Saturday shift per rotation (approximately every 6+ weeks). No holidays currently.

Responsibilities
  • The registered professional nurse assumes accountability and responsibility for the individualized, age-specific care of a patient along the continuum from admission to discharge. Provides direct care to assigned patients and assists with other patient care when necessary. Makes ethical decisions on behalf of the patient/family. Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses, collaborates with the patient/family and health care team, develops a plan of care to attain realistic outcomes, provides education founded on evidence-based practice, and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Assess and record patient status and identify patient care needs upon admission/point of care entry.
  • Organize assessment health data so that it is accurate, complete and accessible.
  • Identify problems that need immediate attention and validate diagnoses with patient/family and health care team members.
  • Document diagnoses and plan of care to facilitate outcome determination. Initiate and update the problem list at admission, incorporating principles of age-specific care into the plan of care.
  • Ensure the patient’s individualized plan of care is discussed with and agreed upon by the patient/family; begin discharge planning at admission and consult with patient/family and health care team regarding discharge.
  • Identify patient teaching needs and arrange conferences with patient and/or family and other health team members as indicated.
  • Prioritize and organize nursing interventions that are evidence-based and aligned with established standards of care.
  • Provide individualized, mutually agreeable education founded on evidence-based practice and research guidelines; document all assessments, interventions and patient responses.
  • Regularly review patient data to keep the Plan of Care updated; ensure revisions are systematic and driven by measurable goals; document progression toward outcomes and identify unmet outcomes for continuity of care.
  • Communicate with patient/family and health care team about patient care and the nursing role; collaborate with the patient/family and healthcare team on progress/plan of care.
  • Present relevant patient information at multidisciplinary meetings/conferences for peer feedback; make appropriate referrals for continuity of care as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent with commitment to obtain BSN within three years for ADN holders.
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to work with others.
  • Strong analytic abilities.
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role.
  • Additional requirements for specific areas: ACLS, PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year of hire for ER; TNCC within one year of hire for Pediatric ER; pediatric advanced life support as applicable; trauma nurse specialist and certified pediatric emergency…
