Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Palo Alto, CA 94301
Employment Type: 6+ Month Contract (Potential for Permanent Hire Based on Performance)
Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
The Maintenance Mechanic will perform routine and moderately complex maintenance duties across facility systems. This role requires hands‑on expertise in at least one skilled trade area, the ability to work independently within established procedures, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. Work may be performed individually or as part of a team under general supervision.
Key Responsibilities General Maintenance- Perform routine and moderate-complexity tasks within assigned trade areas.
- Make independent decisions between predefined maintenance options.
- Conduct work that may be spot‑checked during progress or evaluated upon completion.
- Repair and maintain faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, water heaters, and garbage disposals.
- Install or replace water heaters, toilets, and sink fixtures.
- Cut, bend, thread, solder pipes, and assemble small pipe fittings.
- Bleed hot water and steam systems; repair thermocouples, gas control valves, heat exchangers.
- Replace switches, outlets, sockets, and route conduit.
- Make electrical hook‑ups and repair small electrical appliances.
- Repair electrical hand tools.
- Replace fan belts and drive belts.
- Replace air filters; lubricate motors and fans.
- Clean and maintain motors; troubleshoot and tag faulty equipment.
- Adjust valve clearances and carburetors.
- Lubricate vehicle components.
- Clean traps and filters; maintain proper chemical balance.
- Restore and repair furniture.
- Repair door jams, stops, locks, and adjust doors.
- Patch walls and ceilings; paint interior surfaces.
- Build shelves and bookcases.
- Replace broken windows.
- Perform duties consistent with Maintenance Person I responsibilities as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
- Maintain a clean, safe, hazard‑free work environment.
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on work experience in a trade area.
- Vocational training, apprenticeship experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to safely and efficiently perform moderate‑complexity tasks in at least one skilled trade.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Capability to work independently or as part of a crew.
- Valid California Class C Noncommercial Driver's License.
- EPA Certification (Required).
- Ability to obtain and maintain required driver's license.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Constant walking and standing.
- Frequent forceful grasping; lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional kneeling, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing ladders/scaffolds; lifting 21-40 lbs.
- Rare lifting above 40 lbs and seated work.
- Functional visual acuity, including color vision.
- May require overtime, evening, weekend, and holiday work.
- Exposure to:
- Inclement weather
- Radiation, electromagnetic fields, and lasers
- Noise (>80db)
- Allergens, chemicals, biohazards, asbestos
- May work in confined spaces or at heights of 4-10+ ft.
- Required to wear uniform and PPE as needed.
