R&DE provides housing for 16,000 students and dependents, serves 8 million meals annually at 48 dining venues and 32 culinary enterprises, and includes executive services, conference operations, and guest lodging.

The Electrician Job Family includes installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment, and may involve new construction and remodels. Work includes proper technical installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems in university buildings, fire alarm and street lighting systems, and communications systems. Some assignments may involve overhead lines and high voltage work with hazard potential. Two job series exist:
Electrician Job Series and Electrician High Voltage Job Series. The High Voltage series is found in the utility delivery system environment.

Responsibilities include a representative sample of key tasks and/or responsibilities. They are not a complete list. Responsibilities may include working on electrical systems with minimal supervision, planning for complex projects, and directing work of other electricians. They may also involve specialized systems such as alarms and control systems, electrical cable, and other specialized gear. Duties may include:

• Diagnose problems independently and sometimes schedule work and set priorities.
• Perform installation, operations and maintenance in alarms and control systems and/or electrical gear; electricians specialists perform these duties under general supervision.
• Perform estimates and detailed scopes of work for complex new or updated electrical systems.
• Enter data and maintain databases of preventive maintenance and drawings/schematics.
• May work alone or provide direction to other Electrician Specialists, Electrician Maintenance, or other maintenance personnel.
• Install, maintain, or repair variable frequency drives, UPS and generator systems.
• Work on distribution systems under 600 Volts AC/DC including motor control centers.
• Layout, install and troubleshoot industrial and motor control circuits with relays, PLCs, and other components.
• May service and test circuit breakers and coordinate with outside vendors/contractors.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education And Experience Required
In addition to the education listed for Electrician Maintenance, Electrician Specialist must have 7 years of work experience, with several years in an appropriate specialized area or in special training.

Minimum Qualifications
In addition to Electrician Maintenance qualifications, Electrician Specialist must have sufficient experience to work independently most of the time, and to guide others. Experience in electronic and microprocessor-based controls, relays, interpretation of schematics, VFDs, motor control centers, or other specialized areas may be required.
